Rail Safety Workshop is a winner for Sandgate School students

On Friday 15 March, sixth form students at Sandgate School in Kendal participated in a Rail Safety workshop hosted by Northern’s Community Safety Manager, David Wilkinson, and local Station Manager, Jane Murray. Sandgate School is a specialist school for students with special educational needs and the aim of the workshop is to raise awareness of and mitigate the potential dangers which can be encountered when travelling by rail. The students were a delight to engage with and thoroughly enjoyed David’s safety lesson which was complete with a mobile model railway! Staff said that “the students had a blast”! This is the second Rail Safety workshop facilitated by Community Rail Cumbria with the students and it is a pleasure to see an increase in safety awareness and confidence when travelling by train. The long term aim is to promote independent travel opportunities for this vulnerable passenger group.
