The ‘Edge of Empire’ project is an integral part of the recent build programme to regenerate Maryport railway station and environs as a recognised transport ‘hub’.  Utilising the input and involvement of a wide variety of stakeholders and committed funders the project integrates a compelling and authentic Roman ‘theme’ on the platform.

This project captures and promotes the importance of Maryport’s Roman history in a modern rail-based setting; encourages further rail exploration of Roman history on the Cumbrian Coast and Tyne valley line and provides an on-platform educational experience for children which reinforces the curriculum requirement for stimulating interest in local heritage and history.
