Community Rail Cumbria was delighted to welcome newly appointed Rail Minister Andrew Jones to launch the Department for Transport’s Community Rail Strategy at Millom Discovery Centre last  week. This important document sets the scene for the development of Community Rail nationally and acknowledges the huge social and economic value of the range of projects undertaken by volunteers and officers across the UK.  The Minister was impressed by the range of sustainable ventures taking place at Millom station and spoke highly of the Centre’s Trustees, volunteers and staff.  He also took time to engage with staff and residents from Stanfield House sharing personal experiences and understanding how Community Rail can benefit individuals as well as our local communities.
