Free event – Leyland National 50 comes to Whitehaven harbourside

Over the bank holiday weekend of Sat 30th April and Sun 1st May Workington Transport Heritage Trust will be celebrating 50 years since the start of Leyland National production at Lillyhall.

This free event will be on Whitehaven harbourside, just a 2-minute walk from Whitehaven railway station.

They anticipate up to 50 heritage vehicles over the weekend, with buses from right across the production span, including ‘Super National’ demonstrators and other significant examples.

There will be other Workington built vehicles, and buses in the liveries of former NBC & SBG companies and PTEs.

Buses will be lined up along the harbour front and operating a park and ride service, free town tours and a run to the Lillyhall factory site where a line up and photo call for owners will take place on the Sunday afternoon. There will also be a continental market on the oldest of the quays, the Sugar Tongue.

This event has been made possible by the invaluable co-operation of local organisations including Copeland Borough Council, Whitehaven Harbour Commission, The Beacon Museum, Lakes College, Britain’s Energy Coast, Eddie Stobart and Stagecoach.

Leyland National 50 Facebook page provides further information about the event, regular updates and details of buses attending.
