From Sunday 2 February, TPE will be introducing Penalty Fares across their services. The Penalty Fares scheme will apply on all TPE services on all their routes excluding journeys to and from Scotland.

Penalty Fares are designed to discourage people from travelling on trains without first buying a ticket where they have the opportunity to do so. The penalty will be £20 or twice the single fare whichever is the greater, which is standard across TOCs who have a Penalty Fares scheme.

The new scheme means TPE will now follow in the footsteps of other TOCs including Northern Rail who have successfully introduced penalty fares in the last few years.
